Question from a friend

Is it weird if a girl uses words (such as pronouns) to address herself that are typically used by men? Provide examples if possible, thanks for the information 🙂

  1. It’s socially weird in real life but it’s an oft used trope in manga and anime where a masculine female character would use male pronouns.

I’ve met three women in real life who did this. One was a family friend who lived in a mostly male family, another was quite an anime freak and the other person, well I’m not too sure but I think it was her persona. In all cases I’m sure they only did it around family and friends and not for example, at school or work.

  2. You are talking about using 僕(ぼく)as a girl, right?

It’s certainly weird, especially for a grown-up woman to say. It gives impression that you are still immature and much like a tomboy in your heart. So don’t expect people to take you seriously if you use 僕(ぼく). People will instantly think you want to joke around like a child and try to go along with the flow you established without knowing.
