Planning days between Kyoto / Osaka / Tokyo

I’m planning my honeymoon with my wife to Japan in the beginning of October. We’re doing 10 days in Japan. Currently we are landing in Tokyo early morning like 5am and will take the train to Kyoto/Osaka and then come back to Tokyo half way and fly out of Tokyo. Little background we really enjoy the cuisine which is why we wanted to do Japan. That probably our top priority. After that would be experience, like anime/martial arts/ history. Shopping is probably our last focus.

Here are some of the Questions I’m struggling with:

1. I want to split the trip into 2 parts. Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka. How many days should I do in Tokyo? I am in between 5 nights in Tokyo and 5 nights in Kyoto/Osaka or 6/4 respectively. My friend said Tokyo is huge so lot to do there. He did 4 nights and it wasn’t enough so leaning towards 6/4. However because we’ll be jet lagged/tired, not sure how much we can get done the first day after traveling. So the first day won’t count much I guess.

2. Should make Osaka or Kyoto home base? I know it’s a popular question on this sub but some context might help you guys to answer this for me. I definitely want to make a trip to the other city regardless of where I stay. Only think is I hear Kyoto everything closes pretty early like 7-8pm and anything open later than that (bars, restaurants) are more for locals that know someone. Now we’re not looking for to party late night at bars/clubs, but would want to have something to do especially food wise after 7pm. On the other hand, I hear that Kyoto has more to do and is an old historic vibe which we want to experience. My wife also wants to do the harry potter world at universal and I want to do Nada as well. Considering this what would be better to stay at for better logistics. And given what we want to do don’t recommend 4 or 5 nights in this city and the rest in Tokyo.

Thanks in advance.
