Why do delivery drivers lie?

I set up a delivery by Yamato today between 8 and 12. I was keeping an eye on the status online, even checking my door and mailbox from 1130.

I check the status at 11:49 and it says there was an attempt of delivery but I was not home.

Swear on my life no one rang the doorbell, there is no evidence on the monitor either. Checked my mailbox and no attempted delivery slip. If I hadn’t been checking the status online I would have no way of knowing.

The fact that there was no doorbell or slip in my mailbox makes me think the driver dude was just lying and knew he wasnt going to get to my house by 12 so just lied. I don’t know why he did that though. I immediately called Yamato and complained and told them there was no doorbell or paper slip, so hopefully that gets the guy in trouble.

At this point I’m just curious what the advantage of lying might be fore the dude. I scheduled a delivery for the next time slot which is 14:00 to 16:00 so he is still going to have to come here today either way…
