What’s the scene looking like right now?

I had a subscription to NJPW last year and while ultimately I really dig it the following are reasons why I cancelled my subscription.

*All the random American NJPW PPVs (this is probably just me showing my age and expecting anything for free). If I am paying for a subscription I don’t expect to also pay for PPVs. This is doubly true with the AEW / RoH PPVs. If I can’t watch all of a thing it’s not worth it to me to watch some of it.

At the end of the day I don’t mind the crossover aspect but $10-$20 is all I am willing to spend on wrestling a month and only then, if I get all the content that I want to follow for that much does it feel worth it to me. The leaning towards “external” (including the us ppvs) shows also made the “main” NJPW (which is freaking awesome) feel secondary, if not tertiary, which is a shame because as much as crossover doesn’t bother me but NJPW and its “peer companies” are all amazing but distinct products.

AEW is a thing and it’s fine, ROH is something else and that’s also fine, the same goes for NJPW. Unfortunately, by the time I cancelled my subscription AEW was … ok, ROH just felt like a minor league team for AEW and NJPW felt like it was an even more minor league team. This isn’t an assessment of quality but just how each of those promotions were feeling in relation to each other.

* The time that it took for English commentary bothered me. This has a lot to do with the format. Going into super it last year I was psyched but heading out of it I was starting to get jaded. I am totally fine with subtitles if that was an option but I need some kinda translation and having several major shows with long wait times for English made following or catching up feel impossible.

Have these situations changed at all over the past year? Whatever the answer, I am still pondering getting my subscription back but I would love some good news.
