Have you ever flown with VietJetAir or Scoot from Tokyo?

I want to take a flight from Tokyo to my home country next month and I saw some cheap flights from VietJetAir and Scoot. I have never flown from these airlines before.

Seems like I have to self transfer for these flights but the layover is long enough for it to go smoothly I think?

Anyone has experienced flying by these airlines?

  1. I know someone who flew VietJetAir recently and lost two bags. They’re still fighting with the airline as of today, and it happened almost a month ago.

  2. Scoot is ok for short trips.

When I say short trips I mean no layover and maximum Singapore-Manila distance.

International or domestic transfers? Staying with the same airline or switching at the transit point?

If you have to transfer internationally with different low-cost airlines, that might entail going through the full customs / immigration procedure at the transit country to get your bags and basically exit the secure area, then go back in again through the entire checkin, security, immigration process for the next flight.

Personally I might avoid VietJet Air.

Scoot might be ok if you’re not switching / transiting to a different airline internationally.

Scoot is part of SIA Group so transiting to another SIA Group flight (Scoot, Singapore Airlines or SilkAir) may be fine if allowing for adequate connection time, like 2+ hours. They can check your back to the final destination so you don’t have to do it yourself.

  4. I did Scoot from Bangkok to Osaka and it was what I expected for a budget airline. If you’ve ever flown Peach, it’s pretty similar.

  5. Scoot is okay for the most part, but the food is absolute dogs*** for the $12SGD you pay. Eat before or pack a lunch.

  6. Don’t know but those airlines sound like the ones that crash over Indonesia you hear in the news
