  1. Does anyone know the price for renshuu pro lifetime when it’s on sale? I missed the spring sale and wondered what the price was.

  2. What is the purpose of とのことで in the second sentence?

    はじめて部屋に呼んだ時あまりにも汚いと言われて
    掃除をしたいというとのことで合鍵を渡した

  3. なんか、なんて、などってまだ翻訳するのは難しい。教えてもらってもいいですか?

Hey everyone! I’m on the last chapter of 上級へのとびら and I find myself still struggling a lot with these grammar points. I’ve read many different resources on how to properly translate these, but I still am having a hard time. Any one have a good way of dealing with these that has worked for you?

Sample conversation from the book. I feel like context is important so I included the whole excerpt.

    あ、そのTシャツ、もったいない運動Tシャツでしょ。

    そう、いいでしょ。ネッで買ったんだ。

    ね、もったいない運動って何?

    地球に緑を増やす運動でノーベル平和賞もらった人、**何て**名前だったっけ?

What role is 何て performing here?

  4. I’m just starting out studying Japanese, has anyone used WaniKani and found it helpful?

  5. There’s a Japanese restaurant near me by the name of 行っとく, and I thought by this point in my japanese learning I would understand what that meant, but I still don’t, haha. I tried looking up the とく suffix, and I saw that it meant something like, to do in advance, or to do in preparation, but I still don’t really understand. Does this mean like, to go ahead of time, or something like that?

  6. Not really a question I guess, just complaining…

My professor teaches the masu form only, and I feel like teaching the dictionary form first makes a lot more sense. The Genki textbook is significantly less formal than my professor insists on. Now that I’m trying to memorize te form it’s especially troublesome.

  7. 全国出場を—とりあえずの夢として掲げてる高校なんて いくらでもありますよ

What’s とりあえずの夢 or what does とりあえず mean in this context?

  8. What’s the difference between 決定 and 踏ん切り? (Other than one being a lot less common, I guess)
