My spouse’s last name is like 16 characters or so in length. Let’s just say her name using the common format from the US is
`first middle last1-last2` (pretend this is more characters)
Our bank, MUFG, in the app, has her name spelled (**in katakana**)
`ラスト1 ラスト2 ファースト ミダル`
(technically it’s actually the wrong katakana because they dropped some characters to make it fit I’m guessing, but oh well – we’ve tried it both correctly and exactly as it exists in her account in the MUFG app, EXCEPT for a space because rakuten doesn’t allow spaces in their hiragana fields – more below).
When TRYING to sign up for a Rakuten credit card, the step where we are trying to setup MUFG for payment (I guess?) there is an integration where your name (in Katakana) is sent to MUFG and you put in a 1 time password plus your pin for your account. We’ve tried every _possible_ permutation of her name, but MUFG keeps saying that the name doesn’t match the account.
From what I can tell the first / last name is pulled from the hiragana on the Rakuten page, that’s converted to katakana when sent to MUFG. So, in Rakuten we enter
last:
らすと1
first:
ふぁーすと
And that is converted to katakana when sent to MUFG for the validation step.
But this fails, as does らすと1らすと2 ふぁーすと, and again any permutation we can think of. Note that you can’t put SPACES in the field on the Rakuten side but there is space in her name when we view her name in the MUFG app.
This isn’t our first time dealing with this type of thing because of her name, it’s a constant thing and very annoying, but in this particular case I’m not sure who the right person to contact is.
I’m wondering if anybody has any advice or if the “郵送でお手続き” option might actually be a viable option? We’d prefer not to wait MONTHS or whatever though (it warns it can take 1-2 months by mail).
At this point I’m willing to consider even signing up for a completely different credit card, we’re mainly looking for a card just to make it more convenient to spend money.
Sorry for the ranty-post that’s needlessly long but thanks for any advice!
