I was wondering about this because it’s been harder to find orange juice recently. Even the conbini orange juice I see recently is an OJ/mikan mix. I don’t really care if it’s mikan or OJ per se- they’re both good. I dont know if there’s enough mikan in Japan to cover for the lack of orange juice though.
Yeah I noticed a month ago and after x weeks of no OJ I asked the store staff and they acted like they hadn’t noticed….I could tell it was bad acting. The next week we had a shelf full of mikan juice. Same I do not care its Mikan but it is strange they stocked it up pretty quick after the complaint. Thought there was some kind of conspiracy going down.
Same with olive oil
I was wondering why orange juice had become super expensive.
Its all those fresh juice machines in the train stations
The Industrial Revolution and its consequences.
Or the weak yen. Must be one of the 2.
I used to love the 500ml? Orange juice cartens from family mart, was real OJ, delicious. A couple of months ago they changed their packaging, no biggie, companies do that frequently here, but when I drank it, it was a watery concoction that had barely touched an orange. Was very disappointed
There are so many kinds of locally grown citrus around at the moment. If worst comes to worst I’ll be squeezing some of those.
As expected since the Juice died a week ago or so.
Is this because Japan doesn’t use much of it’s local citrus for juice? I could see this if they are importing their citrus, but I see a ton of fruit on the trees in south west Japan.
My cassis orange cocktails 😫
> In early April, Megmilk Snow Brand, the Japanese distributor for Dole juices, suspended sales of its Dole Orange 100% juice in 450-milliliter and one-liter cartons,
WTF is up with “450ml cartons”? Shrinkflation strikes again. :/

Why not use mikan as a substitute?
