A few questions before I go and find myself an accountant.
I am currently a resident of Canada, planning to move to Japan in Sept 2024 and live there for a year. I will be working remotely as a contractor from June 2024, and the company employing me is based in the Caymans. I have no significant residential ties to Canada (no home, no spouse, no dependents), and have some secondary ties (drivers license, passport, bank accounts, partial ownership of a business)
Is it realistic for me to expect to be able to get a Japanese working holiday visa? (with 1 year extension, salary can be set anywhere up to 200k if I incorporate and pay myself a salary, I am 25 years old)
Would I be considered a tax resident of Canada, or a tax resident of Japan?
Is there a way I could be considered neither if I stay in neither Canada or Japan for 183 calendar days in 2025? In this situation I would look to stay in Korea when nearing the 183 calendar day limit.
Given all of the above conditions, is it optimal for me to incorporate and pay myself a salary?
Considering all of the above, and add on the fact that I will be getting paid in cryptocurrency stablecoins, what kind of accountant specializations should I be looking for? Will I need to consult more than 1? Â Â
