Hi! I’m visiting Japan in November and one leg of my trip will be in the Kansai region then moving out to Nagoya. Specifically I will be in Osaka as a home base for roughly 4-5 days, looking to visit Nara and also maybe Kyoto for day trips. I will then end my Kansai leg of the trip by heading off to Nagoya.
I initially thought it would be a good idea to get the 5-day Kintetsu Rail Pass as it seems to have stops at Osaka, Nara, Kyoto and Nagoya. However, I’m second guessing because I’m not sure if it seems overly inefficient as some information online indicates that it’s very slow..for example Osaka->Nagoya can take up to 3.5hrs without limited express, and even with limited express will take 2.5hrs.
I’m wondering if it’s a better idea to just buy individual tickets out from Osaka to each of the destinations and take Shinkansen from Osaka to Nagoya. Or alternatively if there’s some other combination of existing passes that would be better to use for these few destinations. I understand that there’s some compromise required between being efficient (with time/distance) and how expensive it is, but wondering if there’s options that better balance time and cost.
Would anyone be able to provide some suggestions or insights on this?
