Most likely killed with Covid and not of Covid. “If someone dies with COVID-19, we are counting that as a COVID-19 death.” according to Doctors worldwide.
The number of people that died from Covid in Japan last years is 40,200.
This is from the official toll from 1) 17,191 (January 1st to May 9th of 2023) 2) 23,309 (May 10th to December 31st 2023)
[November and December 2023 numbers from the recently released data the by Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare are still considered estimates but can be found here.](https://www.mhlw.go.jp/content/10900000/001236807.pdf)
For context, the number killed by flu in the last five years in Japan was 1) 2019: 3575 people 2) 2020: 956 people 3) 2021: 22 people 4) 2022: 24 people 5) 2023: ?
COVID is ten times more deadly than the deadliest flu that we have seen in recent years.
That doesn’t even mention the millions of people that are suffering from cardiovascular problems, neurological problems, immune system damage and other problems cause by long COVID.
I mean yeah? It’s still around.
Just because the government downgraded does not mean that the COVID virus has to follow so, yes of course it would turn out like this.
No matter how much 90% of all redditors on the Japan subreddits want to think that COVID is harmless and “just a cold”.
As others have mentioned just because it is downgraded doesn’t mean it is going away.
In fact, the virus will mutate just like flu and it will continue to come back for years to come so people should at least be on minimum guard by wearing mask if you’re going to be in crowded places.
Oh wow. It’s like the virus can’t read news reports and doesn’t care.
