I’m planning a trip from Fukuoka to Osaka which I know will require Shinkansen tickets. A calculator online said it wouldn’t be worth getting a JR pass since getting standard shinkansen tickets are cheaper. My question is, since the train passes through Hiroshima, would it be possible to hop off mid trip to check out Hiroshima for a few hours and then head to Osaka later in the day? Would I need to purchase a Shinkansen ticket from Fukuoka to Hiroshima and then another for Hiroshima to Osaka? Or can you hop off at stops as you please with a Fukuoka to Osaka ticket?
