Better to take a taxi or take the train?

Hello. Me and 4 friends are going to be going to Japan soon. We are going to be landing at the KIX airport at 10:15pm and need to get to our hotel by midnight. We are already planning to pick up our JR Passes and Pocket Wi-Fi, and get through customs, at the Haneda airport while we are waiting for our connecting flight to take us to KIX, so we should only need to pick up our checked luggage and then we can get out of the KIX airport.

We can’t decide whether it would be better to take a taxi to the airport or take the train? The train is cheaper, but we will have to walk some distance to get to our hotel after arriving at the station. And I know most people say to not to the train with luggage, but I think it won’t be that busy in the train at that hour so maybe it won’t be too bad. Taking a taxi will be more expensive, but it can take us directly to the hotel. And with multiple people, the cost of the taxi might not be too bad if we split the cost. According to Google maps, it will take about 45 minutes to an hour to get from the airport to the hotel by taxi (and that is with tolls) and it will take about an hour if we take the train. Either way, we are going to be pushing it pretty close to midnight. Any advice would be appreciated.
