I’m a student who’s been living in Japan for most of my life, and while I used to attend an IB school (and was one of the top students there) I’ve transferred to a Japanese high school. I’m considering applying for an university in Japan as I’m graduating next year, but I’ve seen a lot of people talk about how getting a degree here might not be worth it (mostly due to it not being internationally recognized). I have always loved Eng lit; it was one of my favorite subjects in school and I am an avid reader, so naturally I wanted to apply for an English major here, though after some research it seems that most programs here are less suitable for native speakers of English and more for those who are Japanese, not necessarily fluent but would like to learn more about western literature. I am totally stumped on what I should do next– I would prefer to get a job here in Japan, so maybe going to uni here would be better? At the same time, going abroad (if I can manage to get accepted) would probably be more suitable for my academic pursuits.
