Japan traveller veteran here, I’ve been to Japan 5 times and I’ve noticed that I’ve been disappointed with Osaka and was wondering if anyone else felt the same.
-Most of the things doable in Osaka you can do in Tokyo at a larger scale.
– Tokyo and Osaka get a somewhat similar number of tourists, but because Osaka is much smaller in area than Tokyo, it feels way more crowded than Tokyo.
– Dotonbori is a sea of tourists both local and foreign.
– Kansai Airport is operating at overcapacity compared to Narita (Haven’t seen Haneda yet). I remember departing from Kansai in November and the queue was otherworldly.
– I’m currently staying in Nishinari which is compared to Asakusa or Taito City and I definitely feel Asakusa and Taito City are nicer.
– The food is good but again, nothing you can’t also find in Tokyo.
I’ll be leaving Osaka tomorrow for Fukuoka and I can safely say I wouldn’t want to come back to Osaka in the future.
