I live in America and I’ve never had onigiri but I’ve always thought they looked so fun to make and eat. Until I started learning about them, I had always assumed that they had sweet fillings and was surprised to learn that they have savory fillings. I chalk this up to my first exposure of onigiri being on the 90s Pokemon dub where they called them Jelly Donuts lol.
They came out good!! I made a tuna mayo filling with soy sauce and mirin, but I only had non-Japanese style mayonnaise so not quite authentic!
First time ever tasting Onigiri? Never had rice before? lol.
Looks good!
Onigiri is so simple and delicious! I hope you get your hands on some kewpie mayo so you can enjoy that combination. I also recommend bacon and mayo, it’s super untraditional but still delicious.
Use a bit more nori next time. But good first attempt!
