I’ll be traveling solo to Tokyo for work trip on 17-21st June 2024 in Tokyo (Tamachi), and I’m planning to arrive earlier on morning of 15th June (landing 7-ish am in NRT) so will have 2 nights to explore Japan a little bit before starting work on 17th.
The last time I was here was back in 2016 for a personal solo trip in Tokyo for 5 days, and since this work trip I will be in Tokyo again the whole time, I want to take this chance to explore nearby areas.
I’ve always wanted to go to Kyoto, but the 2-way Shinkansen price is too steep for me. I’m guessing anywhere >2 hours away will also be quite costly in terms of flights/trains. Been looking at places ~1 hour away but been overwhelmed by the choices.
Any recommendations for great places ~1 hour away from Tokyo that has budget of $100 for 2-way travel, and decent mid-range hotel ($100/night) accessible by subway/train?
I love food, so somewhere with interesting local food & places with nature for sightseeing will be great. More of an early morning person so not so much into bar/nightlife.
