Hi all,
Thank you for all your help in advance.
I don’t even know where to start – but I’ll keep it really simple.
The last two years I’ve been working in Japan for a Japanese company for 2 years, this April I became self employed and registered as a Sole proprietor. I know work freelance in various locations.
One of my clients (an establishment not individual ) very kindly informed me that I need a number on my invoice, they didn’t seem to know what this number actually was but it wasn’t my My number. They claimed it was a business resignation certificate/ number that’s only recently come into effect, and that I can get it from my Tax office.
So today I went to the Tax office, they took me to a room, put me on the phone to someone who speaks English. The person I spoke to seems to think I need to register for Consumption Tax, and from then I would get a new number to add to my invoice.
From the looking and digging I’ve found online/ reddit I see there’s recently been introduced a new invoice system in which people are issued a number.
So my questions are:
1a) Any idea what this number is that my employer is talking about?
1b) How do I apply for this number/ what form do I ask for?
2) Do I need to register to pay consumption tax ( Income will be less than 10m a year)
If anyone can shine any light on this that would be amazing.
Kindest,
J
