Hello.
I finished plan for my 40 nights itinerary. In most cases I will use major cities as a hub to limit the packing time and hassle with the check in/check out and luggage moving. I tried to make every travel not longer than 3h ( the only exception is Nikko – Kusatsu onsen ( almost 6h with to much transport changes if You have any tips what to do to skip long road here I will gladly accept any advice)
Anyway I want to ask more experienced travelers how to optimize day trips from the major cities and what hidden gems close to them should I visit for 100%.
Plan:
* 6 nights – Tokyo
* 2 nights – Nikko
* 1 night – Kusatsu Onsen
* 3 nights – Nagano
* 1 night – Matsumoto
* 1 night – Kakurean Hidaji
* 1 night – Takayama
* long daily trip from Takayama to – Shirakawa – Go then later to Kanazawa
* 3 nights – Kanazawa
* 2 nights – Fukui
* 3 nights – Kyoto
* 10 nights – Osaka ( major hub for Nara, Himeji and other good locations for the daily trips)
* 3 nights – Nagoya
* 4 nights – Tokio
My last trip to Japan was couple years ago, 2 weeks in Tokyo, went to Kawaguchiko once.
Now I want in first days check ,,what’s new” in Tokyo, at the last days of the travel I have plans for the Yokohama and Kamakura daily trips.
I am not interested in Hakone/ Fuji. I like the night life so 10 nights in Osaka should be enough, I want to visit for sure Nagoya Oceanarium and similar attractions.
I feel that its a solid plan with a lot of different things and places to experience but for sure I missed some hidden gems which I should visit – only daily trips as i already finished finding accommodation as well.
