without knowing your level, it’s hard to recommend anything.
make sure to pick something correct for your level, or it will be quite a slog. take it from a person that did the latter. i don’t regret it but it was a *grind*. just be aware when you select one. just as a rough approximation, adult-level japanese novels are really hard before the “i am studying for the n2” point, at a minimum. otherwise you’ll be looking up 20-40 words per page and also missing out on some basic grammar. (or reading with limited comprehension, memorizing a thousand words, and re-reading, depending on your current learning practices.)
i’d figure your approximate n5-n1 level and do a search on google and also thru this reddit subthread for, for example “n3 light novel”.
I’m going to recommend a website/app called satori reader. It’s a platform that uses stories to teach Japanese. Definitely check it out if you want to start reading in Japanese they do all different levels and it can save the kanji level you have and show furigana and all kinds of different settings to try out. Definitely try that out and possibly lingq as well but I haven’t tried it for Japanese.
凪の残響 is pretty good. I’d recommend being at least part way through your N2 study, at that level it’s fairly easy.
They have rankings on their homepage of the most popular novels for free and often you can find some good ones there! Some popular series started out on this website too like tensei shitara slime datta Ken! I’m sure there will be a good mystery novel on the rankings!
