   **Living in Japan while doing remote work for companies outside of Japan**

   I’ve been doing a lot of research around this. I have asked the embassy in my country and searched a ton, but not a lot of information exists on this.

   The embassy suggested the recently added visa called “Digital Nomad”, which has a length of stay at 6 months with no extensions possible and this also means I won’t be able to rent an apartment which was also my plan, but as plan on staying in Japan for 3-4 years, this isn’t much of a good option for me. I plan on calling them and see if we can find something, but I also wanted to ask here just in case.

   What do you think I should do here? I was thinking of looking for a job in Japan as a software engineer/developer as this is my profession.

2. Your only real option is to find an English speaking job or learn Japanese to a high level then get a job that way.

   Digital Nomad visa is just for 6 months, 1 day beyond 6 months (in the whole world) makes you liable for tax.

   If you want to stay for multiple years, get a job or a student visa (can’t work).
