Can’t add PASMO commuter pass card to Apple Wallet

Hi everyone and happy 三連休!

I recently got my (student) commuter pass and wanted to add it to my iPhone wallet. I already had a physical PASMO card from back in the day that I have added with no problems to my phone. At the service counter they said it’d be easier to issue a new card instead of adding a student commuter pass to my old card, so I did as they recommended.

However, when I tried to add the new card to the wallet, it said that the name on the card doesn’t match the name in the system. I’ve since deleted the old card (even though I can’t completely erase it for some reason) and went to the service counter multiple times to change the name in different variations (romaji and katakana included).

I’ve also googled the problem and on the Apple support page it says:

“If you are trying to add a second […] PASMO […] to use with Apple Pay, make sure the name on the second card matches the first name on your […] PASMO card. If you have different names on multiple cards, download and register in the iOS Suica app or PASMO app.”

However, if I want to add a card via the PASMO app, it only redirects me to the Wallet, where I get the same name error.

Is there a trick to get it to work somehow? The only thing I haven’t tried yet is katakana name with no space between first and last name. Would that do the trick?
