Literally my most favorite food in the world. 2 places near me serve it, but they are both meh. Pretty sure they are frozen and then just fried.
That little Bonito dance is always a good sign 🤤
Iv been to Japan for a total of 6 weeks and actively looked for these. Couldn’t find any… I must be seriously unlucky! Still, will be moving to Chiba very soon and I’m sure I’ll find a decent place!
Was this homemade or can you recommend a place?
I’m eating it too!! Delicious
I love these
What the hell is it?
I had a distinct memory from early childhood of my father eating something alive that was moving on his plate at a Japanese restaurant. Then, ten years later, I ordered something with bonito flakes and I figured it out.
There was this one resturant in Tel Aviv called Oben Koben, they make mostly ramen but they also used to make Takoyaki in the evening, imunfortunatly octopus is kinda hard to get here in Israel and Oben Koben stopped selling them…
If anyone know of another place in Israel to eat takoyaki i’d be very happy to hear where, also try Akiko in Tel Aviv, the nice lady there (which the restaurant is named after) makes the most amazing okonomiyaki ever!
Gindaco has locations everywhere in Japan and even in the USA. Not a traditional Osaka style in that they have a smooth somewhat crisp outside and are rather large. I never have a problem finding takoyaki in Tokyo – they are literally available everywhere. Love picking them up outside the train station. They are at perfect eating temp after my short walk home.
I always order Takoyaki when I’m out with friends who haven’t tried Japanese food.
It’s hilarious and very amusing watching them look at the bonito flakes and freak out thinking the dish is alive.
Then I tell them “no, but look on the inside of the ball”. They look inside and see the tentacle and they freak out even more.
More Takoyaki for me, I’ll be devouring that, thank you very much!
This looks like the takoyaki from my favorite ramen place called Wabi House
