Hi thanks to everyone for the useful information on here.
Firstly in 2023 I made around 500,000 yen in miscellaneous income and i filed successfully this year.
In 2022 i lost a significant amount of money in miscellaneous income and i did not file because gains were less than 200,000 yen. (but I did file in my home country US)
I asked the NTA taxman when i filed and he implied that if i had filed in japan for 2022 that I would be able to claim the offset but alas..
Question: I’m currently in a bit of a pickle trying to get my documents ready for a possible audit from yours truly this year or someday in the future and want to know if Miscellaneous Income tax in 2023 would be able to be offset by the same type of miscellaneous income losses from 2022? I’m assuming if the taxman comes knocking i would be forced to file for 2022 and earlier (can losses be applied to earlier tax years too?)
