Hello guys,
I’m Brazilian and my wife is japanese, we’re having a baby in about 2 weeks or so.
When we married, she didn’t took my last name.
I heard the baby register in japan won’t allow the baby to have my last name, since my wife also doesn’t have.
I wanted to name the baby with both our families last name, like
Baby name – japanese – my foreign last name
Is it possible ?

No, the babies name will need to match your wife’s koseki. You can give the baby a really long unweildy first name by attaching your last name to it but please, for the love of god, don’t.
That being said I don’t know about Brazil but the US for instance doesn’t care what the Japanese documents say you can name your kid whatever you want. Might be the same for Brazil.
I don’t know what’s allowed but please please don’t curse your child with an overly long name! It’s a huge pain with a lot of processes, especially in Japan.

You are going to give your child a really, really difficult time.
It is not possible to have both lasts names. (I wanted something similar as well).
What ended up happening was.
1.- baby took mother’s last name
2.- we wanted to change it to my last name
3 .- lots of paperwork to prove how is culturally acceptable in my culture for the woman not to take my last name.
4.- requesting to change my child’s last name while also proving is ok for my child to have my last name but not the mother.
Overall a pain in the ass. Good luck
If you register the birth a d name with Brazil before you do so in Japan, Japan will take the name. We did this when my daughter was born since we wanted her to have a middle name. Japan accepted the middle name since we had already registered her with usa.
Ignore all these silly comments about how hellish life will be with a long name.
