  1. Hoping for the exchange rate become 70yen to the dollar so I can visit the states again

  2. I wouldn’t call needing to spend thousands in airfare a budget destination, but that’s just me.

  3. I’m actually jealous! I’ve been here for about half of my life and I do think it’s an amazing vacation spot, but there are two Japans. The vacation Japan and the Japan you live and work in. It’s great to live here, but it’s not vacation Japan. Even taking a vacation in Japan from the living and working side is not vacation Japan. Imagine what it would be like benefitting from the weak yen! I’d love to see a documentary from both side, especially now.

  4. I visited last year and had a wonderful time. Since then I’ve seen at least 4 other friends visiting and know a couple others who likely will this year.

I hope to visit again but it sounds like the vibe for tourists might be shifting a bit as it starts to strain local economies.

  5. Trying to think of all the great places that improved or benefited from being considered a top budget destination.

    Still thinking.

  6. When a country goes into recession, then it is time for vacation!

  7. I’m jealous of tourists. As someone who lives here it’s just getting more and more expensive while real wages have been falling every year.

  8. Sucks for the people living there, but holy shit is it cheap there thanks to the weak yen. Honestly I just came back from Mexico City and that felt way more expensive than Japan did

  9. Actually booked a trip for the end of the year. Flight was pretty damn costly though since I live on the east coast of the US, but just looking at everything else, most things seem reasonable.
