Hi.
I majored in Japanese and lived and worked in Japan for a while. I was last in Japan in 2019, so my Japanese is kinda rusty and I’ve mainly just been “maintaining” my Japanese…which basically just means anime and manga.
I want to get back into more “dedicated” learning and have a routine. I’m thinking about starting with smaller readings (like 10-15 minutes) that I could do in the morning or during a break. Of course I could do 10-15 minutes of a novel, but I’d rather something that’s supposed to be that length and not like stopping 1/3 into a chapter. Also, most of the Japanese novels I’ve read tend to have like chapters that are like 30 or 40+ pages.
Besides (random) newspaper articles, I can only think of short story collections. Otsuichi (乙一) was one of my favorite short-story writers (eg ZOO) but I was wondering if there are collections with even shorter stories that can be completed around 10-15 minutes. Or other short-story writers you recommend?
Thank you.
