Myself (23M) and my team (7 people. Also early 20s) have chosen to move our startup from the US to Tokyo after securing a large contract from the Japanese government. Only two people on our team speak Japanese (myself and one of our SWEs). Our logic for moving to Tokyo is fourfold:
(1) a large number of our meetings will be in Tokyo
(2) our client really prefers in-person meetings (every meeting we had leading to the contract required us to fly to Tokyo (which got really expensive really fast)
(3) our product has government & private sector application. our expansion plan to use our clients connections to reach private sector clients more easily
(4) seems like a cool opportunity. when else could we do this?
If we decide to do this, our plan is to rent and work out of 1-2 houses/condos. However, getting the actual housing could be hard as we know Japan is not super friendly to foreigners when it comes to housing. Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
