Where can I get a 小上がり ベッド(ko agari bed)?

I’m looking for a bed that’s [this style](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41vFwKNTo5L._AC_.jpg). I know that it’s kinda like a platform/pallet bed in the US but those have slats and I need a solid surface. I also know that there are tatami beds but I don’t want tatami either and they’re also super expensive here. Do you guys know how I can purchase something like this in the US? Maybe I could import it? Do you have any sites or search terms that I could use? Thanks.

  1. If anyone knows of there is a specific term for this type of bed, I would love to know!

  2. There’s a few Japanese specialty stores here near Seattle. I think there’s a furniture store too if you are in that area.

  3. Just so you are aware: the reason those are hard to find is because they have an inherent issue. If you have a solid surface underneath your bed, you should make sure that air circulation happens somehow. If not at night, then at least during the day by lifting up the mattress, putting it against the wall, something. Reason being that otherwise, you’ll have a risk of eventually getting mold.

  4. It might not be exactly what you’re looking for but before we moved cross country, my husband and I had a waterbed. The mattress… did not make it. So we set up the bottom of the frame minus the side rails. We upholstered nice fabric over the chipboard planks that topped the pedestal, basically stapling the fabric on like you would stretch a canvas, and bought a nice futon mattress on top and it looked pretty decent for the number of years we used it. If you find an old waterbed on craigslist or something, that might be a way to go.
That said, just about many platform beds can hold decking instead of slats-particularly if you put some extra support in the middle. You just need to cut strong enough plywood or particle board to match.

  5. I just saw an ad for a site that makes platform beds called thuma.co

I clicked links here 3 days ago and now personalized advertising is showing me platform bed ads on Instagram lol

The one I saw advertised was really simple and didn’t use slats so maybe that’s what you’re looking for if it’s cheap too
