Hi, all. I founded a (very) small company in the UK with my UK-based business partner and I’m tentatively looking into setting up a Japan branch in Tokyo. I’m a Tokyo resident and freelancer.
Lots of info available regarding setup fees, etc. but nothing about running costs and whether there are any flat fees regardless of income.
For the first couple of years both the UK and Japan side will be running without generating income while I prepare to go live. After the initial setup fees are paid, I’ll be responsible for the Japan side and given our limited startup capital it’ll all be coming out of my pocket so I don’t want to make any unnecessary expenditures like an accountant or consultant if the branch isn’t generating income.
I essentially want to open the branch and want to know how much it would cost to keep open with zero incomings and outgoings. Outgoings (such as equipment purchases) will be made through the UK parent company using our seed investment and declared via our UK accountant.
I thought this information would be readily available but seem to be hitting a brick wall. Hoping someone here has experience they can share.
