What has developing an inner Japanese voice or speech been like for you?

I was recently doing some research on the development of inner speech (essentially talking to yourself in your mind) for second language acquisition. This isn’t the same as pure “thinking” in Japanese but rather using Japanese in inner monologuing.

It seems that as people become fluent in a new language, especially if they are immersed in that language through moving to the country that speaks it, they develop a sort of interlanguage in their head that uses both languages. However, apparently this can be frustrating to some. Then after time they develop a more developed inner monologue purely in the target language.

I guess I’m curious about if you all here have 1. developed an inner Japanese voice or speech and 2. whether this just naturally occurred or if you worked at it specifically and 3. what helped you do this.

Thank you for your insight.
