Wife and I moved to Japan in November but she’s being asked to resign from the company

My wife and I moved back to Japan in November 2023, and my wife is on a HSV (the 80 point version).

The company has been harassing her, she’s experienced power harassment, and the work being given to her is completely different to the job description given to her. Plus the workload and expectations placed on her have been very unreasonable.

The company decided to extend my wifes probation period in February, and in April asked my wife to resign.

My wife refused, and they said they’d cut her salary by lowering her job title / pay grade two levels.

They told her they can’t fire her (even though she’s still on her probation period as it was extended), is that true? Even on probation?

But is it legal to reduce pay? I guess that’s a tactic to get somebody to leave.

They offered her 3 months garden leave / severance.

What would you recommend? The situation at her company is pretty dire, so I think she should take the garden leave and find a new job.

I imagine she should negotiate for more garden leave 6 months? 1 year? But can they reduce her salary if she refuses?

She’s a seishain by the way.
