Alternative clothing as a foreigner

Hello!
In short: I wanted to ask about Do’s and Don’t for alternative styles for example, do i leave my chokers at home?

I am planning to visit Japan in a few months for the first time and for a longer period.
I like to wear, lets say, alternative clothes that can be upsetting even to people here in Europe and i often leave them in the closet visiting family or in formal settings.
Like metal merch is not taken well here, because it goes against the christian beliefs of most people. But whats not okay here might be totally fine in Japan and vice versa, i really don’t know. I want to respect the culture and not stick out like a neon sign as shocking example of a tourist, but i don’t have a feel for whats actually okay. Considering the egirl esthetic is popular in asia from what i gathered.

I have figured out that showing off shoulders and arms is not so good, but what about punk, metal, goth, grunge, even boho or gypsy elements?

Edit: I will be going into more rural areas too and am aware that you can get away with most things in the big cities.
