I’m a Disney guy and know nothing of USJ, but we wanted to surprise the kids. If anyone knows some insider tips or has any “do and don’t” advice it would be much appreciated.
Especially if you are travelling from Tokyo (or another far-away place), it is almost always worth it to pay for one of the ticket packs so you have guaranteed access to the popular rides at a specified time. It makes for a very stress free and fun trip, albeit at a not unsubstantial expense.
Just went last weekend with the kids, and this may change as summer vacation ends, but the park actually opens earlier than the advertised 9am.
The shuttle bus from our USJ-affiliated hotel left at 7:30 and we were in the new Nintendo land right around 8am, no entry tickets required and less than a 20-minute wait for the mariokart ride. When we finished seeing pretty much everything just after 10am, the mariokart ride had a 2-hour wait and they were handing out entry tickets with designated time slots just to get in.
It’s always worth it to pay for the express passes, they’re expensive but they save you a lot of time. Also if they have any escape rooms or special events, the tickets need to be purchased before-hand. They cannot be bought on the day.
