So, I’ve rental cars quite a few times in Japan, in Honshu, Kyushu, Hokkaido, Okinawan islands etc. so not a newbie. For my October trip I’m going to rent for 10 days from Takamatsu and drop off in Matsuyama, then I’ll rent again another 2 days in Kyushu , from Oita to Hita.
I usually use [travel.rakuten.co.jp](http://travel.rakuten.co.jp) or Toyota Rent-a-car directly, especially for one-way hires and I have no problems finding options in Shikoku from Orix, Budget, Times Car Rental, Toyota and Nissan.
However, prices are insane, this is not completely new, was the same the last year or two but surely a few years after Covid prices should be stabilising once companies got enough cars again.
For the price of 24 days in 2019 I can now get 12 days if I’m lucky.
Does anyone have any tips for affordable rental?
The very cheapest I can find is Budget at ¥66,000 for 10 days, I’d ideally get a hybrid but that’s another 20k on top.
