Moving to Japan with a “Dying” Dev/IT Job, realistic opportunities?

Hey everyone, I’m a 23M from Southeast Asia. I currently live in the UAE for work as a Junior Web Development Specialist. I have an IT bachelor’s degree specializing in Web Development from my home country.

I am thinking of moving to Japan through the language school route. I’ve researched for the past year on a lot of things about moving to Japan and I’m still convinced I want to make the move someday, despite the pros and cons.

The concern for me is what I’ll be doing after language school. You see, I’m planning to get at least a year of work experience in my current job. I was an intern that was absorbed to be full-time in my current position. So I have about 6 months under my belt as an intern, then aiming for 1 year full time. However, this position seems like it’s dying, or at least not a popular career path for Japan foreigners/expats.

I work in the marketing department that essentially maintains and makes website changes for my company, who has a ton of websites. It’s mainly through CMS services like WordPress, Umbraco, etc. It’s DEFINITELY different from your typical SWE/Dev job that’s apparent in Japan for foreigners, though I still dabble with the back-end code, mostly front-end.

So I just wanted to inquire how realistic my chances are post-language school? Atleast for those who are familiar with my career path. I won’t mind going back home, but if I can, I will find a job in Japan, assuming I reach the proficiency needed. Because in all honestly if this career isn’t the best, I’ll just leave and find another job sooner than later before moving to Japan.
