Good day and thanks in advance.I Was married to a Japanese local while in the military stationed in Japan. She filed and completed divorce paperwork without going to court took the simplest route and it was granted. I live in the Philippines so before I travel and show up asking for the certificate I wanted to know my best course of action.
Do I go to the known city hall with my ID and ask for a copy of the divorce certificate? I don’t have my old paperwork with her name in Kanji but I have her name in English as my only reference name wise and a copy of my old address in Japanese writing.
Hire a lawyer which I think they would be pricey due to me being a foreigner and have limited information about her family name which would maybe be some research involved to track her family registry for her proper name that could cost a pretty penny just to track down a copy of the divorce certificate.
