We will travel around Honshu during June, starting in Tokyo – Takayama – Matsumoto – Hirsohima – Osaka – Kyoto – Tokyo. We have already booked a bus ride from Takayama to Matsumoto. However, we are extremely confused by all the different companies, websites, etc. and we were not able to find a good way to buy tickets or make seat reservations. We also have not gotten a JR pass as we think it is more expensive than buying the individual tickets. So is it actually necessary to boock tickets and seats in advance? Or is it enough if e.g. we arrive in Takayama on Monday and then buy our ticket and seat reservation for Wednesday, so always like 2 – 3 days in advance?
