Hi there. My first time here… We moved to Japan about 6 weeks ago, and we signed up for Y! Mobile. The coverage seems fine, and the plans are relatively cheap (plus the phones were heavily discounted). But the Y!Mail app for SMS is pretty badly designed.
The most difficult part is that we got our kid the Softbank “Kids Phone” (not cheap) and it forces a weird hybrid SMS+Email. So if you don’t use Y!Mobile SMS app, you simply cannot read the SMS from your kid… And that includes automatic alerts like when the emergency tab is pulled, or when the battery is low, or any time it sends you a link to the location.
So it seems like the only options are to stick with the Y!Mail app (yuck) or switch it to actual email, which would mean all “SMS” would be sent to my email instead of my phone as an SMS. So not super ideal. 🙁
Does anyone have any experience with this? Any workarounds that allow for an English SMS app to work with the Softbank “kids phone”?
