I’d like to add the biggest issue with Japan’s diplomacy with Asia isn’t much the financial reparations for the invasion and rape but rather how they currently conduct their history. They just avoid talking anything that hurts the National pride, which leads to a population that react dismissively when the topic comes up.
It’s the same with the West. Slave reparations don’t really change the outlook of how Africans/Carribeans view the West. But say if a man from Jamaica went to the UK and talked to an anti-immigration man who will praise his Jamaican culture and history, that Jamaican man will have a good impression of the country “UK”.
If Japan just simply taught the topic like the Germans do, the Korea won’t be asking for the reparations, because the symbolic diplomatic gesture between the two country conflict will be deemed resolved.
