Hi there, preparing my 3rd trip to Japan next spring, for which I already have the plane tickets in and out of Japan. I will be travelling with my wife, we’re both 40, and my mom, who’ll be 70 by the time. She’s in decent shape, but still 70. Just want to check about general pacing.
Also, we’re big foodies and want to try as much regional stuff as possible, specially during the Kyushu leg, so any insight would be great. Also wanted to ask if anybody knows of a fish or morning market in any of the cities, Have been to the old Tsukiji, Shiogama and Hakodate markets in the past, and all them provided nice experiencies, so it would be fun to do one if available somewhere.
Day 1: Arrival in KIX around noon. Shinsaibashi; Kushikatsu dinner in Shinsekai.
Day 2: Minoh park? (probably jet lagged still, so taking it easy). Evening ferry to Beppu
Day 3: Hells and day stay at Onsen.
Day 4: Rent car > Kurokawa onsen (day stay) > Mt. Aso. Night around Aso
Day 5: Takachiho > Night in Kumamoto
Day 6: Kumamoto
Day 7: Shimabara peninsula. Maybe dolphin watching. Drive into Nagasaki in the evening, Mt. Inasa if weather allows.
Day 8: Nagasaki (is it better to visit Gunkanjima given how limited the available area is or doing the digital museum and allowing more time for peace park and clover garden at a more leisure pace?)
Day 9: Yutoku Inari > Ceramic Museum in Arita > Okawachiyama. Night around Takeo Onsen
Day 10: Yoshinogari > Return car in Fukuoka. Visit Fukuoka.
Day 11 (Saturday): Shinkansen to Nagoya. Inuyama festival (rehearsal day)
Day 12: Attend Formula 1 Grand Prix at Suzuka (Mom and wife will probably do a day trip to Nara or Ise or relax somewhere in Nagoya)
Day 13: Ghibli Park
Day 14: Shinkansen to Tokyo. Hotel around Kanda. Shibuya.
Day 15: Fuji 5 lakes (Train to Otsuki and rent a car there for the day for maximum freedom)
Day 16: Shibamata / Asakusa
Day 17: Gotokuji / Odaiba (Teamlab Planets & Small Worlds). If enough time / energy some shopping in the evening around Odaiba or Ginza.
Day 18: Art & Music instrument shopping around Jimbocho & Ochanomizu > Akihabara. If enough time / energy Ameyoko.
Day 19: Shinkansen to Kyoto. Attend Miyako Odori, maybe visit a nice garden. Hotel in Osaka.
Day 20: Uji, Nintendo Museum. Visit Fushimi Inari at dusk.
Day 21: Northern Kyoto: Shugakuin and Hiei-San or Kuramadera.
Day 22: Shopping. Get in the afternoon to KIX and fly out.
