Disabled US Military Veteran Thinking About Moving To Okinawa

As the title suggests, I’m a disabled military veteran who was stationed on Okinawa during my time in service and was thinking about going back, but on a more permanent basis. I’ve had several questions about the possibility of moving there that I couldn’t get answered with my own research and have been having anxiety issues when I thought about asking them here. So I figured I’d just finally bite the bullet and ask. I’m rated at 90% disabled from Veterans Affairs, but get paid at the 100% rating with unemployability attached to it. I get paid a guaranteed paycheck worth a little more than $3,700/month and can work, so long as it’s not considered a living wage, otherwise my I go back to being paid at 90% and that income is cut basically in half. So I can provide for myself without issue. With that being said, if I wanted to move to Okinawa and Japan in general, do I just need an income or do I need to have a job? I know this is pretty specific to ask, but that’s part of why I haven’t been able to find any answers on my own. If I don’t need to get a job that pays a living wage over the US poverty line, what kind of a visa would or should I pursue? I have no higher education above a high school degree, but don’t mind pursuing one if it will help me in this process. I know most people who migrate there from the US do so by teaching English, but would that be my only option? I’m sorry for being so long winded, but I’m just so lost in everything regarding what my circumstances are that I don’t even know where to begin to start.
