This looks like a great site. Excited to read through it. My husband and I are leaving tomorrow for Japan, our second trip, though the first was 25 or so years ago. On that trip we were mainly in Tokyo, which we especially loved, though also visited Kyoto, Osaka, and a suburb called Kamisu, where our son was teaching English on the JET program. Great trip, but we were sorry not to get out into the countryside more, so this time we’re doing a self-guided inn-to-inn (Osen to Osen) walking tour in Northern Honshu for the first 5 days of the trip, then 5 days in Tokyo. In Tokyo, we love walking around (pre-internet, my husband guided us for hours using a map and compass), and varying our walks between older neighborhoods and more high-tech venues. We also are museum freaks, and will definitely hit the photography museum and others. Will be staying in a Ryokan between the Yanaka and Ueno areas.
All suggestions for Tokyo are welcome, but I’d especially like some restaurant hints. We’re pretty much budget travelers, but we like to have one blowout meal on a trip (up to $150 per person). Suggestions? We eat everything. Thanks in advance.
