Day trips from Osaka or Kyoto?
Family of four; going to be in Kansai region for 4 nights. Two young teens so we are ok with walking/ hiking a few miles each day.
I am currently working out our itinerary, but thought that staying in a hotel in one place and just day tripping from there may be more convenient than two nights in Osaka then changing hotels to Kyoto for another two nights? That way we don’t have to waste time checking in and out one additional time.
Would you suggest rather staying in Kyoto or Osaka as the hotel location? Is that plan feasible or would two nights in each location make more sense?

Edit: wow. Thank you so much everyone for all your replies. Very much appreciated. It seems pretty split in the middle staying in Kyoto or Osaka. At least there seems to be consensus that staying in one place is better compared to staying two nights in each, so I guess I got that settled.
I am tending towards staying in Kyoto close to a train station maybe since I am more interested in the cultural aspect and maybe a daytrip to a hike in nature somewhere close by. We’ll be 4 nights in Tokyo before that so I assume my kids will have plenty of chances to spend my money there.
Will have to do some research what is available in terms of lodging. Thank you so much again!
