  1. Been watching it sporadically with my family, pretty funny at times. Worth a gander.

  2. I haven’t seen the show in question, but I am finding myself going back and watching old shows I haven’t seen, rather than looking up new ones.

Although a lot of them are rough around the edges, often they are far more enjoyable and relatable. A lot of content in “modern” shows feels extremely forced and void of actual quality.

This isn’t just a Japan thing either, the same applies to western shows.

    There are obviously exceptions.

  3. I loved this show. I love the showa era so when i first saw that this series was comming out made me so excited and it didnt dissapoint. I’ve been watching showa era movies and series and i oive time travel so this was the best series for me.

  4. I enjoy the show but I find its premise rather silly. Saying that the Showa era was this kind of crazy politically incorrect period just doesn’t sit right with me when considering how little Japan has actually changed from that period beyond today’s virtue signaling policy moves.

  5. I have mixed feelings about the show. Sometimes it seems to talk about social issues in Japan that weren’t talked about before, sometimes it feels like a boomer calling everything snowflakey. The song in every episode turns me off a bit, too. The cast is awesome.

  6. Loved this show and planning a rewatch, a fun premise and the comedy is not as broad as youd think it might be and has some quite clever social commentary, its also got a lot of heart and emotional depth for a comedy.

Just watched Tiger & Dragon on Netflix which is an older show from the same writer and director, the way the episodes play out are very meta and also worth a watch if you enjoyed this.

  7. This show actually is very very very liberal.

But it deals with both the issues (traditional and modern) very well. I highly highly highly suggest giving it a watch!!

Also fuck Nytimes, the article is shit and it doesn’t do justice to the entire show.

Even if you dont care about random political shit, do give it a watch its very funny regardless. They left the ending a bit wide , so depending on sales there could be a second season too.

The Blu Ray is on sale for $130 as of now.

  8. I always wondered if they made a Japanese version of “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” how that would go over.
