So my spouse (who is Japanese) has taken medical leave from work for mental health reasons. He has be working as an English teacher in a high school but struggled due to the insane workload, not helped by the fact he has ADHD.
With his proficiency in English, and background as a qualified English and History teacher, we have discussed that translation (either full time or freelance) from English to Japanese for material related to history, current affairs etc may be an ideal path.
While there are a number of options that he is pursuing, does anyone have any advice or recommended companies/agencies for new translators, and in addition, what to avoid?
As I work in professional services, I don’t have many connections or knowledge of the translation market. Of course we can perform our own research, but any advice to speed up the process would be much appreciated!
