I am going to move to Japan and gain permanent residency status through my wife (she is a japanese national). At the moment, I am in an online training program so I am not working, and my wife’s family will be taking care of me for the first half a year-ish. The site https://www.moj.go.jp/isa/applications/status/spouseorchildofjapanese01.html says on step (5) that I should have documents proving living costs and payments for where i’m living in Japan. Alternatively, I could show my own savings passbook if I can’t do the first option due to just moving in.
My question is, since I am not the one paying for the living expenses, do I need to take the alternative route by showing my own funds or should my father-in-law’s taxes and payment documents be used instead using the primary method of step 5? And if I need to show my own funds how much should I show?
