Hello everyone,
My wife and I moved out of an apartment recently. We had our final inspection with the rental companies’ person. Gave them the keys and signed some paperwork. We did a walkthrough together. The rental company guy said that there would be no charges other than apartment cleaning and A/C cleaning.
We were told almost a month later that there was a lot of damage done. Most of the damage was there before, which we had photos of so they dropped those. But, they are saying we cause some mold damage. We didn’t see any of this and more importantly the person doing the inspection didn’t see this when he said we were okay to go and no other charges would happen.
We feel that the mold could have happened after we left. We also know that there is considerable damage to the kitchen floor due to the apartment being very old. It was already set to be fixed, but we took that moment as a good time to find another place. We also feel this is just the owner trying to get some easy money from us to help cover the cost.
We’re in Hiroshima. We lived there for over 5 years. What protection, if any do we have? Can we just tell them to pound sand?
We want to pay the cleaning fees as that is fair and agreed upon. We’re upset as we were given the go ahead to leave and that there would be no further charges. Also, what if the guy came in with a hammer and put holes in? Isn’t that the whole point of the final inspection? Anything after that could have been done by anyone.
Edit: we did live there for over 5 years, my mistake.
