Man, I just read an article of the same thing happening in Korea training camp. I genuinely feel bad for the officer that was overseeing the exercise because he too got blown up when he noticed something was wrong and went to assist.
The officer is alive but the guy who pulled the pin isn’t. I heard it’s the most dreaded part of their training and newbies shudder in fear hearing stories about it.
Imho its always a bad idea to do training with real hand grenades. It happens in all countries, they could avoid it, and nothing will get his life back. RIP
That’s terrible, rest in peace.
Fyi I read a Japanese article describing the event and it seems like a piece of shrapnel from a grenade *someone else* threw hit the guy in the neck and it killed him. So there’s definitely something that’s being done wrong here.
What’s SDF ?
Man the live grenade day was the most nerve wracking day of all my basic training. It was probably the most dangerous thing we did since it’s the one thing you could directly fuck up and have it kill you right there. Of course we trained for a long time before actually doing a live grenade via dummies and drilling the motion and timing over and over… But still. Once you’re there at the grenade pit and now holding that live explosive in your hand it’s very quickly quite real.
Plus they don’t explode like the movies and games so it’s not even a worthy payoff lol
I feel terrible for the soldier and everyone who was there
Damn this happened in Korea too recently I think
I’m not sure if it’s a misfire or hesitation but either way, that’s awful. I assume his family at least gets some money for this, right?
