New in Japan

Hi! I moved here with my husband (he’s South American /Japanese, I’m Latina ) three months ago, he’s working and I’m learning the language through YouTube videos, so in the future i could work knowing Japanese. But that means that sometimes i get this homesick and loneliness feeling and I really want to live here with him, it’s totally different from our hometown, and I’ve always wanted to go see the world, it’s just that sometimes it’s hard…
In the meantime i’d like to know if there’s Latin or foreigners communities to make friends or help each other with jobs without speaking Japanese yet, so I can contribute to our household too.
I don’t know if this feeling is normal or what can I do to _not_ feel this way.

Edit: sorry!! I forgot to mention that I’m living in Fukuoka!

  1. yes! Down the street at the corner of Wherethefuckdoyoulive Dori and Itsabigcountry Kaido!

(Japan is a big place, a location if you’re looking for foreign communities would be a good idea, plenty of S. Americans in Japan although mostly Peruvian/Brazilian.).

  2. Check out your the international center at your local city hall for language classes! They’re often during the day, but they’re cheap and run by the city. It’s a great way to meet other international people and locals (usually older people though, but they’re very kind). They might also do events such as cooking classes or local tours you can join too.

  3. Welcome! I can’t help with the latin communities in Fukuoka (not a Latin and I live elsewhere, sorry). But I wanna say that what you’re totally feeling is totally normal. Homesickness is totally normal. Everybody who moves away from home feels like that sometimes. It will come and go, and I hope you feel better soon. It takes a while to adjust to a new situation and you have to let time do its thing.

  4. There used to be a few Latin events in the city. I’m not sure what the community is like. You might have to get on Facebook since there are a lot of local groups and events that are organized through it.

Tacomia isn’t a bad idea. I’ve only talked to the owners a handful of times. Since they have restaurants, I’d imagine that helps to attract folks and bring them together.
